Now, about that proposed CVS . . .

A person using the Internet handle “Mouse” asked about the CVS situation,

“Ah-em, the town’s business? Can we solve the mysteries of the East some other time? Now, about that proposed CVS? Bob, care to comment? (Comment by Mouse,” June 29, 2008 @ 9:36 am )

I replied,

“Ah. Town business. Because I am on the planning board and they may appear before that body in the future, it would not be appropriate for me to comment. Instead, I will post a brief description of the situation and I have added a poll. As with all policy discussions, the community’s participation and input should drive the process and determine the outcome. (Comment by admin — June 29, 2008 @ 10:25 am)

Mouse then said,

May appear Bob? How about those itsy-bitsy variances? I would think they ought to appear, don’t you? Since you cannot comment on your opinion of the proposal, maybe you can tell us when this proposal hit town? Has the Host Committee been engaged? As a Selectman and Planning board member, I’m sure your poll will be fair and balanced.” (Comment by Mouse,” June 29, 2008 @ 11:05)

To which I replied,

“Thanks for bringing up CVS. This is a great discussion. I,m bringing it up to the front page. It is exactly the sort of thing I hoped would fill the pages of this blog. (Comment by admin  June 29, 2008 @ 11:30 am)

The Current Situation

To the best of my knowledge, the process is as follows: CVS must appear before the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) for the zoning variances because they intend to build in a non-conforming lot. If they prevail at the ZBA, they will then have to apply for a special permit, which is a planning board matter.

It is accurate and appropriate to say “may appear” because, as far as I know right now, the ZBA has not decided on their application. And I do not want to influence the process. The community should drive the process.

I will follow up with the ZBA to learn the status CVS’s application and I will share the information here. I will also follow up with the Host Committee.

Regarding the poll, and polls in general on this web site. The software prohibits duplicate votes. Everyone in town has the opportunity to visit here and cast a vote. The results will be like Town Meeting: they will reflect the opinons of those who choose to participate.
